Promise Keeping Father

Promise Keeping Father

Having talked about how the law brings curse and that there is blessing only by faith in Christ, Paul goes on to establish the purposes for which the law was given in the first place.

Galatians 3:19-25 gives us the purpose of the law.

{1} Law was given because people sinned and there was a need to show people that they have sinned. A legal system against which they can compare their sins. (v19)

{2} Law was designed to last only until the coming of the Seed (Christ) (v19)

{3} Law was given by Angels through a mediator (Moses) (v19)

{4} Law was provided as a protection till we could be made right with God. (v23)

{5} Law was a tutor to bring us to Christ. (v24)

We’ve seen earlier that Abraham, sons of Abraham or any Gentile, by the virtue of putting their faith in Christ, will share the same justification and blessing promised to Abraham. (v9) This promise to Abraham was made in Geneses 12, way before the law was in place. To be precise, 430 years before! Now just because the law came in to being later on, that doesn’t annul or negate the promise that God made to Abraham 430 years ago!

And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Galatians 3:17,18

Isn’t that the picture of a promise-keeping, faithful, loving and an eternal Father?! Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God  who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,” Deuteronomy 7:9 This is our God. He never forgets, because He loves with a steadfast love. He never forgets, because we are His masterpiece. He never forgets, because He wants to spend eternity with us. And therefore He made a way for us to enter eternal life and blessing by becoming a sacrifice.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29

We are now a one big family, the family of God. There is no class, creed or race that separates us. It is the faith that binds us together and towards Christ.

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
