Five Minute Friday : REFINE

The definition of the word REFINE may not be a surprise to you. “remove impurities or unwanted elements from a substance” In the Biblical context the term is used as a process that a believer is subjected to, through tests and trials, that he may be refined and come out, free from the impurities of the world.

But I would like to focus our attention towards Psalm 66 where the Psalmist recalls the trials and refinements in the life of God’s people and the outcome at the end of it all.

For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment. Psalm 66:10-12

He recalls the afflictions, the fire and the water and various other trials that they were subjected to. But at the end, we see him proclaiming that God has brought them to rich fulfillment. That is a bold statement to declare. Considering the refinement they went through and acknowledging that God was leading them on to greater good is a remarkable trait of a believer.

I would like for us to remember the greater good too. God has prepared greater things for us. We are just passing through the refinement process. Subject humbly to his refinement and He will unravel the rich fulfillment He has in store for you. “When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10)

Rejoice in your refinement process, because He has not turned away your prayer nor His mercy from you! (Psalm 66:20)

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
