Memory Verse Monday – Week 5

The past 4 weeks have been eventful here at Walking in the Word. We resolved to memorize 52 verses in 52 weeks at the beginning of 2017. It’s never too late, click here to find out how you can join. Over the past few weeks we’ve learnt long and complex verses as well as smaller and familiar verses. If you have learnt all 4, good job! Even if you haven’t and are trying, I urge you to keep going. Show up here consistently, week after week. We have a lot of encouraging resources and features to help you in this challenge. Grab the verse of the week, pin it, read it, write it, repeatedly, till you have hidden it deep in your heart.

Today, I have selected a familiar verse and we are going to memorize the entire verse although many of you might know the first part by heart.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalms 46-10

Psalm 46 is a Psalm about how God has proved Himself as a mighty God, a refuge for His people and a Conqueror among the nations. V1-3 speaks about how the swelling waters and shaking mountains can’t scare us because God is our refuge and our strength. V4-6 talks about how God’s presence and voice controls the raging nations and kingdoms.

Be still means to let go or release. Here, God calls us to let go of any stronghold that may be consuming us with a reminder that He is God. He is capable of dealing with these things far more than you can imagine. He has done it before, He will do it again. You only need to let go and be still. Release those fears, insecurities and the worry into His hands. He will prove to you once more that He is God!

Tip of the Week

This week, as you memorize Psalm 46:10, try to apply it in your life. Is there anything in your life that you need to let go and let God in? Are the waves of trouble swelling and challenging to shake you out of your place? Be Still. Let God in and give Him the control. As you let Him in and acknowledge that He is God and that He is in control, you will find peace and joy. I want to leave you with a song that has been a real encouragement for me when I forget to be still.

I tried to fit you in the walls inside my mind
I try to keep you safely in between the lines
I try to put you in the box that I’ve designed
I try to pull you down so we are eye to eye
When did I forget that you’ve always been the king of the world?
I try to take life back right out of the hands of the king of the world
How could I make you so small
When you’re the one who holds it all
When did I forget that you’ve always been the king of the world

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
