Memory Verse Monday – Week 10

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:9

1 Peter 2:9 is an important verse that talks about our position in Christ Jesus. We who were once alienated from God, living sinful lives, now through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ have these wonderful positions of being a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.

A chosen generation just says it all, we are chosen and separated from the rest of the world. Paul in Romans 1:1 says that he is “separated to the gospel of  God”. As a royal priesthood we are supposed “to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5)

A holy nation and a special people are beautiful denominations but remember the price that Jesus Christ had to pay to earn us this position. Because of that sacrifice, we are called to live holy lives, set apart for Him. So the verse doesn’t end with those exquisite titles that God has given us. It continues to explain our responsibilities as a special people. Having made free from the darkness of sin in our lives, we need to praise Him for bringing us into the marvelous light. This is no one time thing, it is a continuous process. It is our calling!

Tip of the Week

The quiet of the night before you fall asleep is a perfect time to go over the verses that you have memorized one by one. By doing that you will be living out Psalm 4:4 “Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.”

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
