Memory Verse Monday – Week 19

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

Blessed is the man who endures temptation? Did I read that right? A few verses above James says, “count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (v2) But that doesn’t make sense, does it? Well, it does if you read the the entire verse and the context. V3 goes on to say that trials and the testing of your faith eventually produces patience. V12 even says that there is a “crown of life” waiting for those who endure temptation.

This verse ties in really well with our memory verse for last week, which is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5) Trusting solely on God, is the strength that will help us in our times of trials and temptations. Soaking up on His word and living for Him and loving Him, these are the things that will keep us afloat during tough times. And that is why James asks us to count it all joy, that its a blessing to be tempted.

The outcome? We are gonna come on the other side, victorious, approved, wearing a crown of life and with a lot of patience under our belt, might I add! James will go on to say that we “be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (v22) Let’s put that to practice and never forget to trust God, especially when things don’t go really well.

Tip of the week

If you’ve been memorizing random verses, from all over the scripture, like we are doing in this challenge, you might find it difficult remembering the references. For this situation, I have a tip for you. Open your Bible, and literally get back to the word. Visualizing where the verse is, can help you remember the chapter and the verse. Also, when you do this, try sticking with one particular Bible, as the pages and positions of verses can vary from one print to another. What this does is create a mental picture or a mind map of these verses and helps remembering references. Try this and let me know if it works! I would love to hear from you.

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
