Memory Verse Monday – Week 24

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

This verse is the end to the famous passage in Ephesians called “By faith through grace”. Following through with the topic of grace, the emphasis on this verse is “His” workmanship. By highlighting on “His” it implies that our salvation, our new self is a result of Jesus Christ’s work on the cross. While being “fearfully and wonderfully made” talks about our physical birth, “His workmanship” talks about our spiritual birth. This spiritual birth happened when we were born again.

The verse goes on to say that we were created “for good works” not “by good works”. We were not saved by keeping the law or just by being good. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Not only that, but God has also established these good works for us to walk in, and prepared them “beforehand”. When God establishes something, He expects something in return. The expectation here is to bear fruit, and more specifically, good fruit. “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” (John 15:16) He chose us for good works and He expects that from us.

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
