Memory Verse Monday – Week 30

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

This verse makes an appearance in the Sermon on the mount and more precisely in the section about “Worry”. Jesus was teaching the crowd not to worry about their clothes and food. He drew their attention towards the birds of the air and the grass of the field. They had all their needs taken care of by their Heavenly Father. Why can’t we trust Him to the same for us?

This verse, v33 is sort of a summary of the entire passage on Worry. The entire sermon on the mount has been about the Kingdom of God. And Jesus emphasizes the same here. Seek first the kingdom of God.

Anxiety and worry don’t have to have the upper hand in our life. We need to learn to rest in His promises and control. Jesus reminds us to let go and let God in. Be still and Know that I am God. Psalm 46:10 We can turn away from worry and anxious thoughts and focus on the kingdom of God. However, we can do that only when we let go of our fears and doubts and let God take control of our lives.

What does seeking the kingdom of God mean in our lives? It means to obey His commandments. It also means to make God and His will the primary focus of our lives. When we have this pattern going, we will have less to worry about and abide in His will for our needs. Because He is both able and willing to meet our needs. Remember that He is a loving Heavenly Father.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 Memory Verse Monday - Week 30

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
