Five Minute Friday ~ NEIGHBOR

Five Minute Friday ~ NEIGHBOR

Five Minute Friday ~ NEIGHBOR

A few years ago, the children in our AWANA program enacted the story of the Good Samaritan. We all know how this story goes. But the reason Jesus begins telling them this story about the good Samaritan is because the lawyer asked him “who is my neighbor?” I liked how one of our leaders narrated that line in the story.

But the Lawyer didn’t feel good about that. He knew that he had not loved all his neighbors, so to make himself feel better, he asked another question. “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus decided to answer with a story.

How many times do we gloss over the Scriptures, picking and choosing what makes us feel good and leaving out those which stretch our boundaries. Jesus clearly gives command to help the poor, the needy, the downtrodden, the alien, and the sojourner. But what about others. Others that aren’t explicitly mentioned anywhere in the Scripture. But others who are much relevant in this day and age. Can you think of any? I can think of a vast number of others.

What are we going to about these others? Are we going to feel good about ourselves like the lawyer in the story and keep to the script? Helping a few to get in the good books and leaving out the others? Or are we going to be a good neighbor to all of them?

Who are the others? This question was asked at the end of our Bible Study on The Truth Project – Community and Involvement: God Cares, do I?

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
