Day 11 ~ Like Treasure Hidden in a Field

Day 11 ~ Like Treasure Hidden in a Field

Day 11 ~ Like Treasure Hidden in a Field

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Matthew 13:44

It was common for people in those times to bury their wealth and riches in their field, in secret spots so as to avoid being stolen. The man in this parable found one of these hidden treasures in the field and he knew it was of great value. So he hid it back and went and sold all he had to come back and purchase the field. Because according to the Jewish law, whoever owns the land owns any treasures unearthed from it.

This parable goes to say that the true value of the kingdom of heaven is priceless. It cost Jesus Christ His own life. What price should we be paying to gain the kingdom of heaven?

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ. (Philippians 3:7-8)

Paul was willing to lose all he had so he could gain Christ. It is that much valuable. The kingdom of heaven is extremely valuable, therefore it is worth it to lose everything we have to gain it. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.

  • I used to think it worked that way, that Jesus was the treasure and we give up everything but when you see that He gave up everything for the treasure on earth, us. It’s another perspective entirely, God’s.
