Day 30 ~ Like a Tree planted by the Rivers of Water

Day 30 ~ Like a Tree planted by the Rivers of Water

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3

Psalm 1 talks about the contrast between a righteous and an ungodly person. The first verse here talks about the progressional acts of sin and how a righteous person’s choices keep him away from those progressional sins.

  • Walking in the counsel of the ungodly
  • Standing in the path of sinners
  • Sitting in the seat of the scornful

The blessed man in Psalm 1 stays away from the above snares and instead focuses his attention on the law of the Lord and meditates on them.But his delight is in the law of the LordAnd in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2) In doing so, he obtains the blessings mentioned in verse 3. He is compared to a tree planted by the river, thereby enjoying the year-round supply of water. From such a tree you can expect fruit in its season and it won’t dry or wither away.

The righteous person modeled in Psalm 1 is a person who longs for the word of God, meditates on it and learns from it. He is like a tree planted by the river, constantly drawing from the river, water and nourishment for his growth. The word “planted” goes to say that he has found his spot and well settled on the banks of the river. By his constant communication and proximity to the river, he is well sustained and productive. He will be able to stay away from the dangers of an ungodly person.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8

Good success and prosperity is a result of those who have decided to meditate on the word of God day and night. The word of God is living and powerful. The more you learn from it, the more it will enlighten your path and the more your path is lighted up, the less you will fall into traps.

I enjoy learning from God’s word, it amazes me, the wisdom and treasures of God and the way He reveals them to me day after day in a profound manner. In this space I share with you what I’ve learnt through my time with the Word. I earnestly believe that learning alone isn’t sufficient but walking in the word is crucial in a believer’s life. As much as I desire to walk in the word, it’s not always easy. My hope is to encourage you, my dear friend, in your walk with God with words that He has used to strengthen my own walk with Him.
